Drawing from my experience and the experience of many others who have achieved some level of financial success,
I present to you 17 reasons why you are not yet a millionaire and what you can do about it.
You might not agree with every point but don’t let that stop you from being open-minded to a least consider them.
With that said, let’s dive (head-first) in…
#1 YOU ARE INCONSISTENT
An inconsistent person is always chasing shiny opportunities.
They lack the tenacity to pursue one thing to a conclusion.
Usually, they are diagnosed with near-success syndrome (Being very close to success when everything falls apart)
The truth is that the race to success is laden with obstacles especially very close to the finish line.
If you discover that you have a habit of not finishing things break that habit now.
Finish books. Conversations. Projects. And anything else worth your while.
#2 YOU BELIEVE EVERY RICH PERSON GOT RICH BY DOING SOMETHING EVIL OR GETTING AN EXTRA PUSH OR LUCK
This is a strange mental block. If you believe this you may never succeed.
Here is how to diagnose this…
When the names of affluent men & women in society are mentioned these people can associate their successes with a “special” unique advantage like parental or family support, or by engaging in illicit activities like fraud.
Once they do this, they give up on the process claiming they have no one or such advantage.
While we don’t deny the fact that several rich people had support… the obvious truth is that no one can succeed without support.
Everyone on earth has an advantage.
Finding that advantage and focusing on it is what makes you Lucky.
This is what opens the door for people to notice you and then support you.
#3 YOU HATE RICH PEOPLE
This one is usually a manifestation of pride and one thing we already know about pride is its inability to see itself.
So be careful when you check yourself here.
The way this one works is… You see something wrong or awful about every rich person you know in person or from a distance.
You think you know better and should rather be in their position, while they languish in yours. You secretly wonder why they are “just lucky”
The truth is that if someone has something that you don’t… They know something you don’t.
This attitude stops you from observing them closely enough to know what they know to get the results they have.
Observing could be through books, teachings, one-on-one mentoring, etc.
Humble yourself, the secrets to greatness are found with the great. Stop hating, start learning.
#4 YOU ARE NOT CONSTANTLY INVESTING IN YOURSELF
Your know-it-all mentality won’t take you far.
You being too lazy to read books, articles, or watch training videos won’t take you far
Your stingy attitude to not buy and consume materials would set you back.
If you will become rich and stay rich, you must commit to continuously learning & investing in your self-development.
Here’s one of the ways I do it… I ask myself what are the areas of my life where I need to improve now?
After listing about 3 to 5 key areas, I go ahead to ask a defining question.
Which of these 5 areas would make the most significant impact on my life immediately?
Once I get that answered, I make moves to search for the best resources in that area and study. Which may be books, courses, articles, etc.
#5 YOU DON’T SET GOALS
There is a statistic that claim that people who set written goals are more likely to succeed than those who don’t
Even if you don’t agree with it, here are some interesting facts about your goals and why you should consider writing yours down.
- Goals help build consistency which is the first thing lacking if you are not yet rich.
- Goals are objectives that can be measured and are time-bound.
- Most people don’t write goals because they fear that they will fail at them. The truth is that goals don’t fail, the time of fulfillment might increase.
- If you truly want to succeed consider writing out your financial goal, why you must achieve it, and the steps you must take to hit it.
Start with a simple daily to-do list and grow to the point where you can set weekly, monthly, yearly, and 5 year goals.
#6 YOU SPEND TOO MUCH TIME PLAYING
Time is the most important or expensive asset everyone has.
Money can be multiplied. Properties can be replaced but static is time and once lost can never be recovered.
Except you’re a scientist or spiritist who has been experimenting with time travel, you will agree with my statement above.
Time is your most valuable asset and you must be conscious of how you spend it.
Setting Goals is one way to help you accurately spend your time doing something meaningful.
If you are talking for 2 hours on the phone, chatting for 12 hours, and watching movies for 4 hours on Netflix, you might be wasting your time.
Even if you argue that you are doing business on social… I do business on socials, maybe even more than you do.
Those that must be great know how to limit time wasters and time stealers (including movies, games, outings, social media, chatting, calling, Demotivation, etc.)
Spend your time doing something that impacts your life in more tangible ways.
#7 YOU DON’T SPEND TIME TO THINK DEEP
One of the greatest blessings you will have is your thinking time.
Most people spend time on surface thoughts.
You must train your mind to think about things in depth.
That way you would easily recognize OPPORTUNITIES even when they are disguised as problems.
One way to do this is to develop your mind.
Note this… Your mind thinks within the boundary of its exposure.
Exposure is formed from…
- Experiences you’ve had
- Places you have gone.
- Stories you have heard/read.
I remember reading the histories of many great Internet companies as a preteen.
I studied the histories of great countries, people, and businesses.
Those experiences expanded my mental exposure and helped me recognize trends, and patterns quickly before my peers.
So give yourself to study the great.
#8 YOU DON’T ACT FAST
Speed is one of the primary factors in life.
You have a dream. Start working on it immediately.
It doesn’t have to be perfect today, it doesn’t have to work 100% today.
WhatsApp the giant messaging app was a complete flop the first time it launched
I recall it had multiple crashes and was very unstable, but was eventually sold for a record deal of $19 Billion in 2014.
Don’t feel your project is inferior because you have not used the best materials or technology.
Start, and commit to Improve along the way.
#9 YOU ARE LOOKING FOR HELP OUTSIDE YOURSELF
I agree that humans are not self-sufficient or sustaining but running around, chasing big men who you feel should help you would not lead you very far.
You are solely responsible for yourself and your success.
Stop blaming those who have succeeded.
They are not responsible for you.
Instead, focus on improving yourself, your worth, and what you can offer.
#10 YOU ONLY FAST/SOW FOR PROSPERITY
Not to cause a religious riot but nobody has successfully fasted and sown to become rich not even your religious leader
They have likely sharpened his preaching skills, a prophetic or healing gift too.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not against those things.
I am not saying whether they work or not.
What I am saying is that if that’s all you brought to the market you’ll be very broke in the end, wishing you took my advice!
#11 YOU DON’T TRY NEW THINGS
One nature of man that isn’t bad on its own is trying things that have worked in the past.
We eat foods we are familiar with. Play the same sport. Watch the same kind of movies.
Read the same kind of novels.
Trying something new can be challenging, but is important if you want to make a mark.
Doing this gives you more exposure and helps you think more deeply than you did before you got that experience.
Always remember it doesn’t hurt to try.
Try bathing with your left hand if you’re right-handed today and observe how it makes you feel.
#12 YOU HAVE NO INTEGRITY
I’m not talking about when an angry stranger yelled at you and said… “You have no integrity!”
While I advise you to avoid such situations, that is not what I am referring to.
Let your mind be at peace.
Integrity is doing what you said you’d do in the most transparent way possible.
It is a very important asset to greatness.
Integrity pays for trust in full.
If you don’t have integrity people won’t trust you and when that happens business can become an extremely difficult sport.
You can’t and shouldn’t please everyone, just make sure you are a person of your word.
#13 YOU ARE A WASTER
Want proof? You don’t save.
Look, there are 3 kinds of people.
Those that…
1. Spend more than their income
2. Spend all their income
3. Spend less than their income
The first 2 are sentenced to a life of misery and/or frustration… by the court of their expenditure.
Please note that an expensive life is not determined by what you spend on but by what you have.
If you don’t discipline yourself to save, how will you ever have enough to invest when opportunities come knocking?
Make it a principle to always save starting today.
#14 YOU LOOK OUT FOR QUICK CASH
The problem with this is not what most people think.
Nooooo… it’s not that you will lose your money (of course you will)
But the real problem is what it does to your mind.
It is like a laziness injection… to your brain.
Your thinking faculties are shut down, your hard work morale turns negative.
Make it a point of discipline never to invest in overnight schemes.
Work hard on legitimate ideas.
#15 YOU DON’T WATCH YOUR MOTIVATION
As fuel is to an automobile so is motivation to the soul of the mogul.
And yes, I just formed that crappy quote.
Taking it a step further… When the mogul lacks motivation, he becomes Mugu. 🤣
On a serious note, pay attention to yourself
- What times do you work best?
- How do you like working?
- Why you are not sleeping well?
- Why does your backache?
- What causes the headaches? etc.
Pay attention to your body. That way you will become more productive and achieve more in less time.
#16 YOU ARE TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE
Only a fool tries to please everyone.
People would hate you. Curse you. Reject you. Then just remember that it is completely normal.
Don’t change your systems or processes (except they are bad) because of minority hate.
You can’t sell to everyone, and everyone is not your customer.
There is nothing wrong with you, some clients are just bad.
Your focus should be on your best customers and making their experience even better.
#17 INVESTING IN MULTIPLE STREAMS TOO EARLY
Dangerous.
That’s my one word for investing in multiple streams quickly.
Multiple streams are not a way to become rich, rather it is a system for securing your wealth.
To become rich, you need to focus and grow financially in one area until it becomes very strong.
Then you can diversify to grow and preserve your wealth.
– END –
